Set up the lounge
- 10 minPlan the event together: running order, who introduces each track, a playback checklist (links open, volume set, speaker tested), and response cards for the audience.
- 15 minFinal polish: one last listen on the performance speaker. Check the start and end: does it fade or stop cleanly?
- 15 minRehearse introductions in groups of four and time them (30 seconds each).
- 10 minDesign the programme: track titles, one-line descriptions and sample credits (for example 'Waves recorded at our beach').
Session 2 · CREATE: Exhibit
Play it to a room
- 5 minWelcome the audience and explain the 60/60 guide and the response cards.
- 30 minListening lounge: each pair introduces and plays its track (or the class film screens with its soundtrack). Audience members fill in a card: 'This track made me feel… The sound I noticed most was…'.
- 12 minRead the cards. Did listeners feel the mood you intended? Write a short producer's reflection: one choice that worked and one thing you would change next time.
- 3 minThank the audience and any visitors properly.
Getting started
Use the introduction frame: 'Our track is called… We made it to show… Listen for…'.
Stretch
Share your track links (with permission) with a partner school, or enter the class tracks in a NZ Music Month showcase at school.
Checkpoint
Each pair presents a finished track and a clear introduction, and writes a reflection linking audience responses to specific musical choices.
