Session 1 · AUTHOR: Organise

Revise and edit

  1. 15 minRead-aloud feedback in threes: where were you gripped, where were you lost, what did you want more of?
  2. 25 minRevise for the reader: sharpen the opening, add sensory detail, cut what slows the story. Then edit dialogue punctuation and paragraphing.
  3. 10 minRehearse reading your story aloud: pace, pauses, voices for dialogue.

Session 2 · AUTHOR: Respond

Story evening

  1. 30 minPublish the anthology and read your stories to the junior class or at the whānau story evening.
  2. 15 minBook talk: a two-minute recommendation of the class novel, with one inference and one favourite line.
  3. 5 minReflect: what did your audience react to, and which of your choices caused it?

Getting started

Revise the opening and the ending before anything else.

Stretch

Submit your story to Toitoi or a writing competition (with whānau consent).

Checkpoint

Every student has a published, revised story and has read part of it aloud to a real audience.
