Session 1 · CREATE: Arrange
Building the structure
- 10 minModel a simple devised structure: opening image, three short scenes that build the problem, a turning point, and a final image. Stick the plan on a storyboard strip.
- 20 minDevise your scenes by improvising, keeping the best lines and moves. A scribe writes a scene list (not a full script).
- 10 minChoose one symbol: an object, colour, sound or movement that stands for your issue (a torn umbrella, a red scarf, a rising water sound).
- 10 minShare your opening image and one scene. Others say 'I notice… I wonder…'.
Session 2 · CREATE: Arrange
Transitions, direct address and the forum moment
- 10 minTransitions: practise moving between scenes with slow motion, a freeze, a sound, a chorus line or a narrator. How does each change the mood?
- 15 minDirect address: one character steps out of the scene and speaks straight to the audience about what is happening. Write and rehearse 3–5 sentences.
- 15 minBuild the forum moment: the scene where things go wrong for the main character. Make sure the audience could imagine a different choice.
- 10 minRun the whole piece in order and time it. Aim for 6–10 minutes.
Getting started
Use the four-box structure: opening image, problem scene, turning point, final image.
Stretch
Add a chorus: a group who speak or move together as one voice, like the community, the river or the rain.
Checkpoint
A scene list with timed scenes, one symbol, planned transitions and a forum moment the audience can change.
