Session 1 · AUTHOR: Hear Voices
Other views, your voice
- 10 minFour corners: move to strongly agree, agree, disagree or strongly disagree on a statement about your issue.
- 15 minInterview two people who see your issue differently (a classmate, a teacher, a whānau member at home). Write down their best reason.
- 15 minTry your opening in three tones: fired up, calm, funny. Which sounds like you and suits your audience?
- 10 minWrite two sentences: the other side's best point, and how you'll answer it fairly.
Session 2 · AUTHOR: Organise
Draft with a plan
- 10 minStructure: hook, position ('This is really about…'), two or three reasons with evidence (PEEL), answer to the other side, call to action.
- 35 minWrite your first draft.
- 5 minMark in the margin where each technique appears. Is there a paragraph with none?
Getting started
Draft with the PEEL paragraph frame and the sentence-starter strip.
Stretch
Vary sentence length on purpose: one very short sentence for impact after a long one.
Checkpoint
A full draft with a clear position, at least two supported reasons, and one sentence that answers the other side.
