Revise, edit and lay out
- 10 minMini-lesson: revising (making it clearer) versus editing (fixing spelling and punctuation).
- 20 minPeer check with the reader's checklist: can a partner explain your topic back to you after reading?
- 15 minFinish your visual and caption, check every reference, and lay out the page.
- 5 minFinal proofread using a ruler under each line.
Session 2 · AUTHOR: Respond
Magazine launch
- 10 minSet up the launch: printed magazine, digital version, visuals on display.
- 25 minReaders (families, another class, library staff) read two articles each and leave a card: 'I learned…', 'I still wonder…'.
- 10 minRead your cards. What did readers understand? What confused them?
- 5 minReflect: what will you do the same next time you explain something?
Getting started
Publish a one-page explanation with one diagram.
Stretch
Send your article to the local library, museum, iwi newsletter or community paper, with a short cover letter.
