Session 1 · SOLVE: Explain
Write the report
- 10 minReport structure: question and prediction, how you collected the data, graph and summary values, what the data shows, how sure you are, and what you would do next.
- 30 minWrite the report and make the exhibition poster. Every claim points to a number or a feature of the graph.
- 10 minPeer check with the checklist: can a visitor read the graph without help? Does the conclusion answer the question?
Session 2 · SOLVE: Explain
Data exhibition
- 5 minSet up posters and a question box beside each one.
- 30 minPresent to whānau and another class. Visitors try to find a claim that the data doesn't support, and leave a question.
- 15 minAnswer one visitor question in writing, and decide who else should see your findings.
Getting started
Use sentence starters: 'The median was… This shows that… I am fairly sure because… but…'.
Stretch
Recommend one action based on your data (a later start for the reading programme, a bird-friendly planting, a new rain-day plan) and explain what extra data would make you more certain.
Checkpoint
The conclusion answers the question, is backed by the data and honestly states how sure the group is.
