Session 1 · TRACE: Evaluate
Strategy scorecard
- 10 minAgree criteria for a strategy: who could take part, how risky it was, how long it took, whether it changed laws, and whether the change lasted.
- 25 minIn groups, evaluate one strategy with evidence: the bus boycott, the sit-ins, the court case (Brown v Board), the children's march, the petition, or community services like the Panthers' homework centres. Present a verdict with two pieces of evidence.
- 15 minYouth voice: choose one real issue in your school or town. Which strategy from history fits it best, and why? Draft your action plan: goal, decision-maker, strategy, evidence, first step.
Session 2 · TRACE: Evaluate
Open the exhibition
- 15 minSet up the exhibition: the living timeline, source cards on young people, the strategy scorecards and the youth-voice plans.
- 25 minExhibition talk: each group gives a two-minute talk to visitors about one young person who stood up and what we can learn from them. Deliver your petition, submission or letter to the right person.
- 10 minReflect: which strategy would you choose if you saw something unfair, and what would stop you? What would help?
Getting started
Use the scorecard template with the criteria already listed and one example filled in.
Stretch
Write a short submission to your council or the school board on your youth-voice issue, using the Parliament guide to making a submission as a model.
Checkpoint
Every group has evaluated one strategy with evidence and shared a youth-voice plan with a real decision-maker.
