Session 1 · DESIGN: Discover
Stakeholders and barriers
- 10 minHook: photos of three everyday barriers (a step, a heavy door, a confusing sign). Who does each one block? Who else does it slow down?
- 10 minStakeholder map: everyone who uses, pays for, maintains or is affected by your chosen space. Circle the people with the most barriers.
- 25 minInterview two stakeholders with different views, e.g. a student who uses the space and the caretaker who maintains it.
- 5 minWrite the problem in one sentence: who, what, where, why it matters.
Session 2 · DESIGN: Explore
Constraints and a first rough prototype
- 15 minMeet the partner (in person or by video). Record the real constraints: budget, space, time, rules, weather, maintenance.
- 15 minLook at two existing solutions elsewhere. What works, for whom, and who is left out?
- 15 minBuild a ten-minute cardboard prototype of your first idea and try it on each other.
- 5 minExit: three constraints and one thing the rough prototype taught you.
Getting started
Start with the stakeholder map template and one interview.
Stretch
Interview someone who disagrees with your partner about what the problem is, and record both views.
Checkpoint
A one-sentence problem, a stakeholder map, three constraints and a rough prototype.
