Session 1 · CREATE: Exhibit
Dress rehearsal
- 8 minWarm-up and focus: stand still for 30 seconds, breathe low, eyes on the conductor.
- 12 minPlan the performance: running order, where each part stands, entrances and exits, who gives the spoken introduction, who tunes the ukulele.
- 10 minWrite and practise a 30-second introduction: what the songs are, where they come from, and who taught them to us.
- 20 minDress rehearsal in the performance space, as if the audience were there. Run the whole set once without stopping.
- 5 minLast notes: one thing to keep, one thing to remember.
Session 2 · CREATE: Exhibit
Performance and reflection
- 10 minWarm-up, tune up and a whole-class focus circle.
- 20 minPerformance: the introduction, the round and the arranged song. Invite the audience to join the last chorus or the round.
- 15 minReflection: read audience response cards ('The moment I remember most… It made me feel…'). Write a short reflection: how did it feel to hold your part, and what did you hear the group do well?
- 5 minThank the audience, hosts and any community teachers properly (manaakitanga).
Getting started
Use the introduction frame: 'Today we will sing… We learned it from… Listen for…'.
Stretch
Record the performance (with consent) and share it with the community teacher who helped you, with a thank-you letter.
Checkpoint
The class performs the whole set in harmony with a clear introduction, and each student writes a reflection linking audience responses to ensemble choices.
