Session 1 · THRIVE: Improve

Recharge experiment

  1. 10 minLook at your sleep and reaction log. Find your median sleep and median reaction distance. Any pattern?
  2. 15 minChoose one recharger to test for five days: phone charged outside the bedroom, lights dimmed an hour before bed, a notification switched off, a daily outdoor walk, or slow breathing before sleep.
  3. 15 minBuild your stress toolbox: sort strategies into 'fix the problem' (plan, ask for help, break it into steps) and 'calm the feeling' (breathe, move, talk, music). Choose two of each.
  4. 10 minKererū asks one question about your experiment. Write your answer before you start.

Session 2 · THRIVE: Value

Circle of control

  1. 10 minThink of a change coming up (a new school, a move, a new sibling, a tournament). Keep it private if you like.
  2. 15 minCircle of control: what can I control, what can I influence, what is out of my hands? Fill in the three rings.
  3. 15 minValues: what matters most to you that good sleep and calm help protect? Whānau time, sport, kapa haka, friends, learning, faith? Write one sentence.
  4. 10 minIn groups, decide what your Recharge Kit must include so that it helps students who are about to start intermediate.

Getting started

Offer a menu of three ready-made experiments and a tick-box log.

Stretch

Design your experiment fairly: what will you measure, what will you keep the same, and what else might explain a change?

Checkpoint

Each student has started a five-day experiment and has a circle-of-control plan for one upcoming change.
