  3. 3
  4. 4
  5. 5

Session 1 · SOLVE: Verify

Final checks and mark-out

  1. 25 minMark out the design on the real site with pegs and string. Check the corners are square by measuring the diagonals (they should be equal).
  2. 15 minDoes it fit, look right and leave room to move? Adjust the plan if needed and record what changed.
  3. 10 minFinal check of every number in the design pack.

Session 2 · SOLVE: Explain

Design expo and pitch

  1. 15 minPrepare a 3-minute pitch: the problem, the site, the design, the numbers (area, volume, cost) and why it works.
  2. 30 minPitch to the principal, property manager, garden team or whānau at a design expo, with the base map, model and materials list.
  3. 5 minRecord feedback and decide one change you would make before building.

Getting started

Use the pitch frame: 'Our space… The problem… Our design… The numbers… Why it works…'.

Stretch

Write a step-by-step build guide with a cutting list for the timber that wastes the least.

Checkpoint

The design pack is accurate, complete and convincing enough that someone could build from it.
