Session 1 · THRIVE: Relationships
Passive, aggressive, assertive
- 10 minWatch the teacher act one situation three ways: passive (says nothing), aggressive (attacks), assertive (clear and respectful). How did each feel?
- 15 minLearn the I-statement: 'I feel … when … I need …'. Practise with low-stakes scenarios.
- 20 minRole play the permission scenarios (Activity: 'Ask first, accept the answer'): borrowing a hoodie, posting a group photo, joining a game, touching someone's hair, and changing your mind halfway.
- 5 minReflect: why is it OK to change your mind, and why must others accept it?
Session 2 · THRIVE: Improve
Under pressure
- 10 minWhat makes it hard to say no? Brainstorm pressures: fear of missing out, losing friends, being laughed at, a bigger kid, loyalty.
- 15 minLearn three pressure tools: pause and breathe, use a rehearsed phrase, get support or leave.
- 20 minPressure role plays in threes: one person pressures, one practises a tool, one observes and gives feedback using a checklist.
- 5 minWrite your own go-to phrase on a card to keep.
Getting started
Use the phrase bank: 'Nah, I'm good.' 'Not keen, maybe next time.' 'I've changed my mind.' 'Please don't post that.'
Stretch
Write a short scene where someone repairs trust after ignoring a friend's 'no': apologise, explain, make it right.
Checkpoint
You can use an I-statement and a pressure tool in a role play, and explain why someone can change their mind.
