Session 1 · VOICE: Investigate
Run 2 and run 3
- 5 minRecap the rule: change one thing only, so you know what made the difference.
- 15 minMake your change. Run 2 three times. Record every distance.
- 10 minPause sheet 2: what happened, why, and the next single change.
- 15 minRun 3 three times. Record every distance.
- 5 minFind the mean distance for each run.
Session 2 · VOICE: Investigate
Surfaces and slopes
- 10 minChoose the independent variable (the thing you change: surface or ramp height) and the dependent variable (the thing you measure: distance).
- 30 minTest your best car on three surfaces, or roll a toy car down a ramp at three heights. Keep everything else the same. Three repeats each.
- 10 minGraph the results as a bar graph and write one sentence about the pattern.
Getting started
Use the results table with three rows per condition and a mean column already set up.
Stretch
Try gears or different wheel sizes and explain the trade-off: bigger wheels travel further per turn but need more force to start.
Checkpoint
Each group can say which single change made the biggest difference and has the data to show it.
Activities for this week
- Ramps and surfaces: How do slope and surface change how far a car rolls?
Useful this week
- Forces and Motion: Basics ↗ Push crates with and without friction and watch the force arrows.
- Forces and speed ↗ How forces speed things up and slow them down, with cycling examples.
